In order to achieve the widespread success Lady Parts thirsts for, how much compromise and surrender is acceptable?It isn’t just the soul-plumbing nature of the writing that shines on “We Are Lady Parts.” PC Williams’ costumes deserve special mention, for each character is dressed believably and beautifully: Saira’s ripped grunge aesthetic is as vibrant as the chic pastels of Amina’s hijabs and dainty, frilly florals of her blouses.And lest we forget, the music, composed by Manzoor’s brother Shez, is the stuff of dreams, each one a banger, transmitting humor, anger, and confidence with the force of a hurricane. (All the actors do their own singing and each plays their own instrument.) If Lady Parts was a real band, this writer would brave the stresses of Ticketmaster and buy front-row seats.
